The new Littmann Cardiology IV VS Cardiology III Stethoscopes Continued

Posted by

Next we will continue the comparison between the Littmann Cardiology IV and the Cardiology III, in this post we will look at the differences between the tubing or binaural assemblies.

First a look at the improvements made to the Cardiology IV:

  • Dual-lumen tubing: two sound paths in one tube eliminates the rubbing noise of traditional double tubes
  • Next-generation tubing is durable and stain resistant. Not made with natural rubber latex or phthalate plasticizers
  • Headset is easily adjusted for individual fit and comfort. Angled ear tubes align with ear canals

Now when comparing the two stethoscopes, both do offer the double lumen advantage which helps to eliminate any unwanted rubbing noises, however the tubing on the Cardiology IV is now coated with a stronger repellent agent furthering the lifespan of the stethoscope. This is why the warranty on the Littmann Cardiology III is 5 years and the Littmann Cardiology IV has a 7 year warranty.

As for the lumen and ear piece assembly, the same construction that was used with the Cardiology III stethoscope is used with the new Cardiology IV as it is an industry leading design and at this time does not need improved. The ear pieces are the same soft sealing ear pieces that come with either generation of stethoscope.

In summary the lumen or tubing has most of the major improvements with an impervious new natural non latex coating to help against staining and marking. The lumen is also made with the same double layer design however that has been improve with the diameter inside being increased slightly to increase the acoustics of the overall listening experience. This new version of the Cardiology series stethoscopes is a great improvement with its lighter design and single piece diaphragms it’s easy to maneuver and clean with less individual pieces.
